From the legendary hotel of the same name on 23^rd street to historic row houses, uber modern art spaces, to slick high rises and the LGBT businesses on 8^th Avenue, Chelsea architecture celebrates diversity around every corner. Named after the London neighborhood by a British Major in colonial times, the area is steeped in history while providing a model for urban renewal and redevelopment with projects like the High Line Park running through it. The most southwestern corner of Chelsea, aka the Meat Packing District is today filled with “cuts” of an entirely different variety than the meat lockers of yesterday. Over the past decade, one of Manhattans most exclusive shopping districts has emerged, boasting international designers along 14^th street and a gourmand’s dream in the Chelsea Market nearby. It’s only natural that fashion and design should play a starring role in this area, with the SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology, SVA and Pratt as residents. Few areas are able to embrace the past and future so effortlessly or so stylishly.  Connected by numerous subway lines and PATH trains, and served by countless restaurants, bars and diners, Chelsea’s appeal is everchanging yet eternal.
