Lower Westchester
New Rochelle
Originally settled by French Hugenots in the late 1600s, many from the French town of “La Rochelle”, this popular suburb is today one of the “Best Walking Cities in America” and considered one of the best places in the country to raise children according to Business Week Magazine.
New Rochelle is commonly referred to as “the Home Town” because of the significant numbers of single-family, residential developments that exist throughout most of the city. However, the once-industrial downtown section today contains high rises, condominiums, office buildings, and shopping centers.
The quality of properties, excellent recreational facilities and country clubs, and the 9.3 miles of Long Island Sound shoreline have led the area to also be known as the “Queen of the Sound.” Only 16 miles from the city and a 25 minute commute to Grand Central also make New Rochelle a perennial choice for families.
